Moenkopi Trail is an easy, family-friendly walk on the west side of Red Rock Canyon that delivers wide-open Mojave views without committing to steep climbs or tricky terrain. If you’re looking for a quick sunrise stroll, a casual photo walk, or a low-effort leg-stretcher between bigger hikes, Moenkopi is a solid pick.
Moenkopi is all about space: desert flats, distant ridgelines, and big sky. The tread is generally gentle and straightforward, making it a good option for beginners, kids, or anyone who wants Red Rock Canyon scenery without the elevation gain of the more popular canyon routes. It’s also a nice “buffer” hike on hot days—short, simple, and easy to turn around whenever you’ve had enough.
Expect classic Mojave Desert textures—open gravelly washes, low shrubs, and layered views toward the sandstone formations that define the park. Because the terrain is broad and exposed, the trail can feel especially scenic in soft light (early morning or late afternoon), when shadows stretch across the flats and the rock color pops.
This route is most comfortable in cooler months and during low-sun hours. There’s little shade, so bring water even for a short outing, and plan for wind—this area can feel breezy compared to tighter canyons. For photos, golden hour is the move.
The Moenkopi trail in Red Rock Canyon Las Vegas is ideal if you want a simple Mojave style hike with minimal elevation, or if you’re building a low-key itinerary with time for photos and scenery. It’s also a great option when you want something outdoorsy that won’t leave you smoked for the rest of the day.
