Ash Spring is an anomalous trail in Red Rock Canyon Las Vegas. When recreation enthusiasts think of hiking in Las Vegas, an environment lush in vegetation with ample shade is probably the last thing that comes to mind. The Ash Spring trail is named after the beautiful, large ash trees littered throughout the region. A nearby spring completes the name. Ash Spring is located adjacent to a region called Red Spring. Similar in nature, but named after the red sandstone cliffs.

Begin your journey in the ever so popular Kraft Mountain loop parking lot. Ascend into the canyon via a family friendly trail that gracefully meanders towards those distinctive ash trees. This vastly under rated trail is not just some random destination among Las Vegas parks and recreation. It's somewhat astonishing how this micro climate thrives in the desert, provides a place for introspection, taking a break, having a meal, or even an ideal picturesque place for a small group.

    Ash Canyon

Don't be fooled by the similar name of an alternate region nestled nearby. Ash Canyon is not the same as the Ash Spring trail. Compare the below pictures to this video. Ash Canyon is a boulder ridden canyon meant to traverse from top to bottom. Doing so is far from easy, but definitely easier than bottom to top. Moreover, it's a place one would think of as home to snakes, scorpions, and spiders.

Nearby trails include but are not limited to the following. Each of which possess their own unique environments.

The Ash Spring trail is a one way, easy, vegetation rich trail that slowly leads hikers into a narrow canyon. Spring water is undoubtedly seasonal and of course adds a tremendous element to the experience. Upon returning, do of course aim to take the trail back. There are however several forks, all of which seem to return to the trailhead origin. As with most every trail in Red Rock Canyon Las Vegas and Las Vegas hiking trails in general, the journey is never what we expect. Enjoy, and be safe.
